Women, Peace and Security Resources

President Obama established the first U.S. NAP on Women, Peace, and Security by executive order in 2011, followed by a second plan in 2016. These were supplanted by the current Women, Peace, and Security Act 2017, enacted by the Trump administration and signed into law by Congress, becoming the first comprehensive legislation in the world recognizing women as critical to peacemaking and security maintenance.

Women, Peace, and Security Act 2017 requires a national strategy as well as stand-alone implementation plans
